Accessibility
What does this truly mean? The answer is quite simple; technology is accessible only when it can be used just as effectively by people with disabilities as it can by those without.
2009 brought major accessibility changes to the marketplace. All businesses must now be prepared to address these changes, such as WCAG 2.0, the pending Section 508 Refresh, the recent amendments to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADAAA), and the soon to be ratified UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which includes IT accessibility mandates.
Organizations must be prepared to quickly update and rethink current accessibility initiatives, diversity plans, risk management strategies, and even marketing campaigns. These advancements will ultimately mean better services and products for stakeholders and employees, including people with disabilities and the aging.
In the ever changing landscape of today´s technology--we all must find ways to make technology accessible to the growing population of citizens with disabilities, including veterans with disabilities and people acquiring disabilities for the first time due to the aging process. We have proven unequivocally that an accessible and universal design approach to technology can help reduce risks while at the same time capture valuable market share, generate a positive buzz, increase sales, and ensure return on investment when reaching this growing population.
Our goal is to ensure that you are aware of -- and prepared for - mounting changes in accessibility and disability guidelines and mandates that will impact your human resources, IT, business development teams, and risk management departments.
