Rockville, VA-- July 18, 2004-- TecAccess, a worldwide leader in information technology (IT) accessibility and Section 508 solutions, will present at the Assistive Technology Exhibit and Policy Forum. Hosted by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Department of Education, the event will occur on July 27, 2004, from 10 AM to 4 PM. TecAccess will showcase some of its clients´ solutions regarding Section 508 compliance and IT accessibility.
Section 508 is the amendment to the Workforce Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which was signed into law by President Clinton in 1998. It requires that all federal departments, agencies, contractors, and federally funded companies make their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities. The law covers the development, maintenance, procurement, and use of these technologies.
The Assistive Technology Exhibit and Policy Forum will be held in commemoration of the 14th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The purpose of the event is to highlight advances made in assistive technology with exhibits by over 40 leading companies, government agencies, and associations that advocate for persons with disabilities. The exhibit and forum will also promote and provide information about assistive technology.
Key exhibitors and panelists will include representatives of General Motors, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, and the Departments of Education, Commerce, Justice and Defense. The policy forum will feature several panels focusing on emerging technologies in the field, the market potential of new assistive technology, and advances in assistive technology for all populations.
