Rockville, VA-- July 9, 2003-- The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced that TecAccess, a worldwide leader in Information Technology Accessibility and Section 508 Solutions, has been certified as a participant in its 8(a) Business Development program for a nine-year period.

The certification will allow TecAccess to receive business development assistance and to bid on contracts that are specifically for SBA 8(a) participants. TecAccess plans to work closely with the SBA, firmly establishing itself in the federal market and continuing to develop excellent long-term business relationships by helping its customers offer accessible solutions.

"We are very honored and thrilled to be accepted into the SBA 8(a) program," said Debra Ruh, President and Founder of TecAccess. "We feel it is designed to make companies competitive, viable enterprises for the long term and will help us continue to effectively compete in the open market."

In addition to 8(a) contacts, TecAccess plans to continue to offer its services to corporate and government clients. "We believe that 8(a) firms must make certain they have a competitive business mix so they can get revenue, not only under the set-aside portion of the program, but in open competition and in the private sector," said Rich Belyea, CEO of TecAccess.

Section 508 is the amendment to the Workforce Rehabilitation Act of 1973 that was signed into law by President Clinton in 1998. It requires all federal departments, agencies, contractors, and federally funded companies to make their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities. The law covers the development, maintenance, procurement, and use of these technologies.

The SBA 8(a) Business Development program helps minority and other disadvantaged businesses grow by offering them support. Program participants can receive contracts that are worth up to $5 million in manufacturing and up to $3 million in anything else. Furthermore, participants can conduct limited competitive business with other SBA 8(a) companies.
